Description

Vanilla French Beignets are light, fluffy pastries that are deep-fried and dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for a sweet breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares or circles.
  6. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the beignets in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Be careful not to overcrowd the fryer to ensure even cooking.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon to the dough.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.
