Description

California Crunch Roll Sushi is a delicious sushi roll that combines fresh ingredients with a satisfying crunch, featuring imitation crab, avocado, and cucumber wrapped in sushi rice and nori.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1 cup imitation crab, shredded
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1/2 cup tempura flakes
  • Soy sauce for serving
  • Wasabi for serving
  • Pickled ginger for serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, combine the rice and water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan, heat rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Let it cool.
  5. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay a sheet of nori on it, shiny side down.
  6. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
  7. Arrange a line of imitation crab, avocado slices, and cucumber along the bottom edge of the rice.
  8. Sprinkle tempura flakes over the fillings.
  9. Using the mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to form a tight roll.
  10. Seal the edge with a little water and slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
  11. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  12. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a drizzle of sriracha inside the roll.
  • Make sure to use sushi-grade fish if you prefer fresh seafood.
  • Keep a bowl of water nearby to wet your hands while handling the rice.
