Description

How to make crispy chicken Caesar sandwich with homemade Caesar dressing and perfectly seasoned chicken that beats any restaurant version.

Ingredients

Scale

Crispy Chicken

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 1/2-inch thickness
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying

Caesar Dressing

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Assembly

  • 8 slices sourdough bread, toasted
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prep Chicken: Pound chicken to even 1/2-inch thickness between plastic wrap. Season both sides with salt and pepper, letting it rest while you prepare the coating stations.
  2. Setup Stations: Set up three shallow dishes: flour in first, beaten eggs in second, panko mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika in third.
  3. Coat Chicken: Dredge each piece in flour, then egg, then seasoned panko, pressing gently to help coating adhere. Let coated chicken rest 5 minutes before frying.
  4. Make Dressing: Whisk together mayo, Parmesan, lemon juice, Worcestershire, minced garlic, and black pepper until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed for perfect flavor.
  5. Fry Chicken: Heat oil to 350°F in large skillet. Fry chicken 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Toast Bread: Toast sourdough slices until golden and crispy. Spread Caesar dressing on one side of each slice while chicken rests on paper towels.
  7. Assemble Sandwiches: Layer romaine lettuce on bottom bread slice, add crispy chicken, then top with more lettuce and remaining bread slice. Serve immediately while chicken is hot.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying or temperature will drop and coating gets soggy.
  • Caesar dressing can be made up to one week ahead and stored in refrigerator.
  • Substitute chicken thighs for breasts if you prefer more flavor and moisture.
  • Serve immediately while chicken is hot for best texture and taste.
  • Double the dressing recipe if you like extra sauce on your sandwich.
  • Panko breadcrumbs create much better texture than regular breadcrumbs for crispiness.
