Texas Turtle Sheet Cake is a rich chocolate cake topped with a gooey pecan caramel sauce and chocolate ganache, perfect for any occasion.

- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a sheet pan.
- In a saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa powder, and bring to a boil.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the boiling butter mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Stir in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the topping by combining caramel sauce and chopped pecans in a bowl.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the caramel-pecan mixture over the hot cake.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the warm cake and let it cool completely.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
