Description
A moist and decadent cake that combines the rich flavors of chocolate and peanut butter, inspired by the classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Carefully stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- While the cakes cool, prepare the peanut butter frosting by combining peanut butter and powdered sugar in a bowl. Gradually add heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
- Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer with peanut butter frosting, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over the frosted cake for decoration.
- Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
- Feel free to add Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as a garnish on top of the cake.
