Description

Ingredients

  • 200g almond flour
  • 200g powdered sugar
  • 150g egg whites (about 5 large eggs)
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • 250g unsalted butter, softened
  • 300g powdered sugar (for filling)
  • Vanilla extract (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, sift together almond flour and powdered sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until foamy, then gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites until fully incorporated.
  5. Divide the batter into three bowls and color one red, one blue, and leave the third white.
  6. Transfer the batters into piping bags and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Let the macarons sit for 30-60 minutes until they form a skin.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, then let cool completely.
  9. For the filling, beat softened butter with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Pipe the filling onto the flat side of half the macarons and sandwich with the other half.

Notes

  • Make sure to age the egg whites for better results.
  • Macarons can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
