Description

A delightful and sweet pie made with honey, nuts, and phyllo dough, showcasing the rich flavors of Greek cuisine.


Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing it with melted butter.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing it with butter. Repeat until you have 5 layers.
  4. In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, almonds, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Spread half of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers.
  6. Layer 3 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter.
  7. Add the remaining nut mixture and top with another 5 layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
  8. Cut the pie into diamond shapes before baking.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. In a saucepan, combine honey, milk, and water. Bring to a simmer and pour over the baked pie.
  11. Let it cool before serving.

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of nuts.
