Deliciously spiced gingerbread cookies rolled in powdered sugar, perfect for holiday gatherings.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- Roll the dough into balls and then roll in powdered sugar.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a spicier cookie, increase the amount of ginger or cinnamon.
- Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
- These cookies can be frozen for up to three months.
