- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Add crushed tomatoes and beans, stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve hot with optional toppings.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or TVP.
- Adjust spice levels by adding more chili powder or jalapeños.
- Chili can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for later use.
