- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted and smooth.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. If desired, sprinkle bread crumbs on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add jalapeños or hot sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to mix in vegetables like broccoli or spinach for added nutrition.
