Description

Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy is a classic Southern dish consisting of breaded and fried beef steak, topped with a savory cream gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 beef cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 cups milk (for gravy)
  • 1/4 cup flour (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
  4. Dip each steak in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and back into the flour.
  5. Fry the steaks in hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the steaks and set aside; keep warm.
  7. For the gravy, add 1/4 cup flour to the skillet with the remaining oil and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Slowly whisk in 2 cups of milk, cooking until thickened.
  9. Season gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Serve the fried steaks hot, topped with gravy.

Notes

  • For a spicier gravy, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to get a crispy crust.
  • You can substitute chicken or pork if preferred.
