- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the sauce thickens.
- Add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese to the sauce, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing well.
- Pour the mac and cheese into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs if desired.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add cooked bacon or vegetables.
- Can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
- Adjust cheese types for different flavors, such as using gouda or pepper jack.
