Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Using a doughnut cutter, carefully cut out doughnuts from the dough.
  6. Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes
