- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup diced apples (peeled and cored)
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a doughnut cutter, carefully cut out doughnuts from the dough.
- Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough to prevent the doughnuts from absorbing too much oil.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
